Large Handwoven Ceiling Lamps

Large woven ceiling lamps are made for the spaces where an ordinary fixture would simply disappear. In a spacious living room, a dining room or an open-plan home, a big lamp fills the air below the ceiling and becomes the focal point the moment you walk in. Unlike a small pendant that just lights a tabletop, a large lamp sets the scale and character of the whole room.

So the shade does not look lost, match its diameter to the room: a medium room suits 50-60 cm, while a spacious living room or a dining area over a big table calls for 70 cm and up. A tightly woven rattan or esparto weave throws large, expressive shadows, while a softer banana-leaf or seagrass weave gives airier, more diffused light.

A simple calculation keeps you from getting the size wrong: add the length and width of the room in meters and convert that to centimeters - the result is roughly the right lamp diameter. For example, a 4 × 5 m room suits a fixture around 90 cm wide, or two smaller lamps side by side.

Ceiling height matters just as much. Large ceiling lamps look best with ceilings from 2.7 m and up, where they have room to hang without feeling oppressive. Above a dining table, hang the bottom of the lamp 60-75 cm above the tabletop; with higher ceilings you can raise this while keeping the proportions balanced. A long table suits an elongated shape or several fixtures in a row.

A large shade needs more light than a small one, simply because the area it lights is bigger. Roughly 40-70% of a bulb's light passes through a tight weave, so for a spacious room choose a brighter LED bulb or a model with several sockets. Many large fixtures come with three or more E27 sockets that spread even light across a wider area.

For warm, cozy evening light we recommend LED filament bulbs in the 2200-2700 K range. LEDs give off minimal heat, which matters especially for large, dense natural-fiber shades. If you want to control the mood, choose dimmable bulbs together with a suitable dimmer.

Large ceiling lamps are light for their size because natural fibers weigh very little, but they still need a solid fixing and a cord long enough for the ceiling height. Before ordering, check the fixture's total weight and choose a suitable ceiling canopy and mounting kit. For large, heavier models we recommend fixing into the structural ceiling rather than into plasterboard alone.
