Helpful guidance
A beautiful woven shade is not a light yet - it needs a cord with a socket, a ceiling rose and a bulb. This section holds exactly those parts: pendant cords for hanging lamps, ceiling roses in white and black, and plug-in cords with an inline switch that simply go into a wall outlet. Every cord uses a standard E27 socket, so it fits almost any rattan, esparto, seagrass or palm-leaf shade in our catalog.
Installation is straightforward and, in basic cases, needs no electrician: a pendant cord connects to the ceiling outlet and is hidden by the rose, while a plug-in kit just goes into a socket. The same shade can become a ceiling pendant, a wall light or a movable table light, depending on the cord you choose.
For dry rooms - the living room, bedroom, dining room or hallway - standard indoor cords are the right pick. They are lighter, with a textile or smooth sleeve, and look clean where they show, such as above a dining table or beside a bed.
For a pergola, terrace, covered eave or a damper corner of a bathroom, choose a waterproof outdoor cord with reinforced insulation and a sealed socket. It handles humidity and temperature swings that an ordinary indoor cord cannot. Keep in mind that outdoors the shade still needs a sheltered, rain-free spot - natural fiber dislikes moisture even when the cord itself is waterproof.
A ceiling rose covers the ceiling outlet and holds the cord. A white rose all but disappears on a light ceiling and suits neutral, Scandinavian and Japandi interiors; a black rose with a dark or natural cord becomes a deliberate graphic accent in industrial or boho schemes.
Choose the cord length by where the light hangs. Above a dining table the bottom of the shade should sit roughly 60-75 cm above the surface, so pick a cord that leaves room to adjust. High ceilings over 3 m or a kitchen island call for a longer cord; if needed, excess length can be shortened or draped sideways with a decorative hook.
A plug-in cord with a switch is the simplest answer for a rented home or any spot without a ceiling outlet. The cord goes straight into a socket, the shade hangs from a hook in the wall or ceiling, and you turn it on with the inline switch - no wiring and no holes drilled into the wall.
It works well for a reading corner, a bedroom above the nightstand, a desk nook or as soft extra light in the living room. The switch on the cord is handy because you can turn the light on without getting up. For this kind of kit choose a lighter shade and a warm LED bulb with an E27 base, in the 2200-2700 K range for cozy evening light.
All our cords take an E27 socket, so finding the right bulb is easy. A woven shade looks best with warm-white LED bulbs in the 2200-2700 K range - they bring out the warm tone of natural fiber and create a cozy mood. Cooler bulbs above 3000 K usually look out of place on natural material.
Note that roughly 40-70% of the light passes through the weave, depending on how densely the shade is woven, so a tighter weave calls for a slightly stronger bulb (say 800-1000 lm). For flicker-free light that does not glare, pick a quality bulb; if you want to vary the brightness, make sure the bulb is dimmable.
Wipe cords and roses with a dry or barely damp cloth while the power is off; in damp areas check the insulation regularly for any damage. Do not load a single cord with too heavy a shade, and use a bulb of suitable wattage so the socket does not overheat.
