A woven shade does not block light but diffuses it - typically 40-70% passes through the weave, casting warm patterns on walls and ceilings.

Rattan shades are tightly woven and durable - they cast defined shadow textures. Esparto and seagrass shades give a coarser, more natural surface and a warm boho character. Palm leaf and date palm shades are airy, with an ethnic accent. Bamboo shades are structural and geometric, ideal for minimalist and Japandi interiors. Because each shade is woven by hand, slight variation in pattern and tone is a mark of quality, not a flaw.

Table lamps suit 20-40 cm shades; floor lamps and large ceiling fixtures, 40-60 cm and up. The most popular pendant sizes are 30-45 cm in diameter. A general rule: the shade width roughly matches the height of the lamp base, keeping proportions balanced. Before swapping a shade, check the socket size (E27 or E14) and the fitting type of your existing lamp.

LED bulbs suit natural fiber shades best - they produce minimal heat and highlight the weave. For warmer, more natural light, choose LED filament bulbs at 2200-2700 K. Avoid halogen and bulbs above 40 W, as excess heat can dry out the fibers. To clean, simply dust regularly with a soft dry cloth or a low-suction vacuum brush; never soak natural fibers.
